Ljubljana – I cant spell that… Day 5

Happy Birthday Brad!

Ljubjianna is cool Ljubljana is the home of our hosts Adrej and Ziga and our last day riding with them would be today. We planned to meet at 5pm and that gave us the day to explore the city, as we had hoped. This city that sits along the banks of the river bearing it’s own name. The old town sits on both sides of the river with the thousand year old castle keeping watch above. The river is lined with outdoor bars and restaraunts and very firendly people. We ate fresh strawberries from a local grower and met great folks as we shared ad rink along the riverside. Awesome town, one of my new favorites; warm like Budapest but so much smaller and thus warmer and more reachable. Go here… We spent the day riding around town and playing on the abundant urban that seems to be in all these old medival cities. Of course wea re mindful of doing no damage and leaving no trace (just like we do on our singletrack) but who can deny the joy of riding down 500 feet of stairs or climbing on an old boroque theatre…

By 5pm we were ready to ride and the guys were too. Of course we climbed for a while through town and then again for 35 minutes on pavement and then again for a while on dirt. It’s what you do here, we now know. But once we reached the top; it was again singletrack and epic descending all the way back to town. I wont bore you with the same old same old, but it was wonderful riding for a trip from the hotel. At one point we mingled in with a group on the pavement and I launched an attack, kind fun, they thgouht so and chased in good spirits. Luckily we turned off while I was still in front so I didnt have to face being crushed, that made it more fun! Singeltrack descending and a few more climbs and we were running through town looking to make Brad’s birthday dinner that Ziga had set up with a contact he had at the best place in Ljubljana. We were ready to eat; these guys had ridden the legs off of us in our three days together. Kudos to Andrej and Ziga and www.mtb.si – these guys rule! I look forward to when we ride again and I can return the favor.

This is a Truffle Mushroom tongith we had Brad’s birthday dinner and it was fantastic. I wont bore you with a long talk about good livin’ and great food but let me share this. ”Truffles” If you do not love the truffle mushroom you need to try it. It is one of the most rare delicacies in food and I did not know that Slovenia produces them as readily as Italy and maybe at a much better price and thus availability. The mushroom in the picture above would fetch a grand in the USA and we ate truffle everything we could find. A wonderful birthday night and celebration of our new found friends.

Thanks to all… ah, truffles!

Off to Maribor… Day 6-7

…and there’s singletrack in them thar hills…
