The Ibis Mojo mountain bike is a classic. It’s arguably the original full-suspension carbon trail bike. The latest version, the Ibis Mojo 4, was launched recently and arrived at the shop a few weeks ago for our mountain bike rental fleet. As soon as we got our hands on the new Mojo we took it out to Gooseberry Mesa for an Ibis Mojo 4 first impressions ride: a classic ride for a classic bike, if you will. The modern trail bike was born in 2005 when the original Ibis Mojo mountain bike was introduced. At the time you pretty much had two choices for full-suspension mountain bikes – XC or downhill/freeride – steep angles with short travel or slack and squishy. The Ibis Mojo changed that with 140mm of travel, a sleek carbon frame and slacker, more aggressive geometry than most early to mid-2000s mountain bikes. Fifteen years later (has […]
Ibis recently announced a new Ripmo 29er with updated geometry and a retuned DW Link suspension system. The new Ibis Ripmo V2 takes the original Ripmo platform, stretches it out, improves the suspension and turns it into a legit enduro rig, ready to take on Enduro World Series race courses, bike parks and big mountain terrain. We got the new Ripmo V2 within a few days of the announcement and sent shop wrench Jordan Rarick out to Church Rocks to get a feel for how it compares to the original Ripmo. Keep reading for our Ibis Ripmo V2 ride report. The original Ibis Ripmo has been one of our most popular mountain bikes. The combination of 29er rollover, new-school geometry and DW Link suspension made it a fantastically versatile and capable bike – especially for mountain bikers who don’t mind pedaling to get to the good stuff. That made the […]
2020 Pivot Switchblade First Ride: the new 2020 Pivot Switchblade 29er is here! Looking back over the past five years, it’s hard to think of another mountain bike that stirred things up quite as much as the original Pivot Switchblade. Our first shipment of 2020 Switchblade 29ers arrived about a week ago and we invited Chris Castle, owner of Advenduro Tours , a local mountain bike tour business, to break it in and give us his first impressions. For more information including complete specs, geometry and pricing, visit our 2020 Pivot Switchblade bike page. The first thing you notice about the new Switchblade is the classic design of the carbon frame. Chris said, “Out of the box, the new Switchblade takes me back to a time of clean straight lines. It’s very reminiscent of the bikes I longed for many years ago. But the Pivot Switchblade has incredibly smooth blends […]
Last year before the Sea Otter Classic we invited a bunch of our friends to a small get together at Solosjuntos, Mike Ferrentino’s ranch south of Monterey. This year we’re doing it again, but bigger and with a bunch of fun bicycle games thrown in. (Trivia: Solosjuntos is where Brandon Semenuk’s video “Parallel” was filmed.) The details are still being finalized, but so far it goes like this: Tuesday, April 14th Nothing really planned but feel free to show up in the evening and camp overnight. We’ll probably be BBQing or sitting around the fire or something similar. Wednesday, April 15th 9:00 AM til Fun and games begin and go til mid afternoon.5:00 PM VIP party (including dinner) until whenever… (You’re all VIP’s!) It’s a bit of a long winding road back to Monterey, please feel free to camp overnight if you’re planning on drinking, or bring a designated driver. […]

Fun with Friends The Over The Edge 3Day events are a chance for us to get together with our friends, ride bikes, make new friends, and experience what our various locations have to offer. A beautiful mix of sun, sand and bikes, the 2019 Baja OTE 3Day event was definitely a good one. Between riding bikes and enjoying quality time over just a few margaritas, too many tacos, and some late night churros, it was pretty much a perfect event. The Shop After coffee and breakfast every morning we met at Over The Edge Baja in Todos Santos. Our baja location carries rental bikes from Trek and Pivot as well as a range of replacement parts, tires and spare tubes, and awesome branded merchandise. They also operate a full service shop where Trino and Alejandro are both Trek World trained mechanics. Riding The riding in Todos Santos (and all of […]
Over The Edge Lake Tahoe presented our first advertised OTE 3 Day event August 1st to 3rd this year. The event promised coffee, bike riding, beers, river floating, as well as a premier of Anthill Films new movie “Return to Earth” and it delivered on all of those promises. With no idea what to expect we arrived in town a day early and headed to the shop. Our group consisted of Troy Rarick, Bill Bergeron and Ian Hylands, and we were hoping that others would join us. At the shop we grabbed some tasty coffee and picked up some rad demo bikes from awesome brands including Evil and Rocky Mountain. Once we had everything dialed we met up with OTE mechanic Jonah Teetsel and a few others that were gathering for a post work shop ride, shuttling up to Vansickle for a quick rip into town. Quick tip, if you […]
OT3 Beginnings The OTE 3day is a 3 day adventure with friends and bikes in great locations. The idea of the Over The Edge OT3 has been evolving for a while. It comes from the basic premise that really all we want to do is share the love of adventures in awesome locations with our people. We’ve been doing that for a while now, and what we’ve found is that while we love going to bike festivals and seeing our friends, the best times are had before and after the busy part of the festival. This year at the end of the Fruita Fat Tire Festival we decided to host the first ever unofficial OTE 3 Day, a totally unsanctioned 3 days of just having fun with some friends. Call it an experiment. We planned to spend those days riding bikes, eating amazing food, climbing desert towers, and essentially just […]
We’re really excited to be one of the first shops in Utah (maybe even the US) to get the new 2020 Rocky Mountain Slayer 29er. Photo-John and Sanchez took it out for an early morning Grafton Mesa shakedown photo ride, last week. Grafton is a Hurricane area downhill/freeride classic. It was originally a Mormon pioneer woodcutter’s road. The remnants of that old “road” are now a steep, rocky mess – perfect for a first ride on the new Rocky Mountain Slayer! The Slayer was one of the first dedicated freeride bikes to hit the market. It debuted in 2001 as a smaller, lighter alternative to the straight-up downhill bikes most freeriders (and Froriders) were using. We’ve come a ridiculously long way since then in terms of mountain bike progression and bike technology. With a burly but lightweight carbon frame (with an alloy rear triangle), contemporary geometry, bigger wheels and the […]
