What Makes The Knolly Chilcotin Freeride Bike Special

We’ve been big fans of Knolly mountain bikes since we opened our doors back in 2007. Designed for British Columbia’s steep, rowdy North Shore, Knolly bikes also work really well on Southern Utah’s technical slickrock terrain. The Knolly Chilcotin 6.0 is a big mountain 29er with lots of travel and long, slack geometry. It’s available with either 155mm or 170mm of rear-wheel travel (our Chilcotin rental bikes all have 170mm of travel). Knolly’s patented FourBy4 suspension is outstanding, serving up amazing traction and making chunky trails feel buttery-smooth.

We just updated our Knolly Chilcotin rental mountain bikes to make them even more capable and fun. They now feature 170mm Fox Podium inverted forks, e*thirteen wheelsets with the anti-kickback Sidekick hub, and Shimano XT wireless drivetrains. When you rent a Chilcotin from us, not only are you demoing one of the best-performing long-travel bikes around, you also get to experience one of the most exciting forks, the most interesting new hub technology, and the latest in wireless shifting.

There are a lot of reasons to choose a Knolly over other bikes. But the main benefit is Knolly’s patented Fourby4 suspension system. If you look closely, the rear linkage on the Chilcotin looks like a classic four-bar Horst link with an extra link at the top. And that’s exactly what it is. The two links control different aspects of the suspension and allow Knolly to separate and fine-tune the bike’s traction and leverage curves. The result is a suspension that feels like no other. Knolly bikes pedal well with amazing traction and a plush, bottomless feel like no other.

To compliment the amazing Fourby4 suspension on our Knolly Chilcotin rental bikes, we’ve spec’d the Fox Podium inverted fork. The purpose of the Podium’s upside-down design is to move more of the weight above the suspension. In a traditional fork, a lot of weight is below the spring and unsuspended. Another bonus demo detail on our Chilcotin fleet is the e*thirteen Sidekick hub. It’s purpose it to smooth out unwanted suspension feedback when you’re coasting to give your bike a smooth, chainless feel. Most people would be surprised if they knew how much pedal kickback slows them down on the descents. With the e*thirteen Sidekick hub you’ll feel a noticeable increase in speed – especially on trails with lots of chunky, square-edged rocks. You might not want the Sidekick hub on a cross-country race bike or even a trail bike. But it makes a lot of sense on a plush, long-travel enduro/freeride bike like the Knolly Chilcotin. Knolly bikes are designed for the North Shore but they’re also a great choice for Southern Utah slickrock.
