  • Jacka’s Brewery  This was originally the local flour mill and was completed in 1878 in local stone. It was converted to a brewery in 1893 and continued to operate in the town until the 1930s. Behind North Star Hotel.
  • Mount Remarkable National Park Walks – Trails include:  Copper Mine,  Bald Hill Lookout and Melrose Mine (Walk along the creek beds back to melrose).  The walk up Mount Remarkable itself takes about 4 to 5 hours.
  • North Star Hotel – The most prominent building in town it is located at the top of the main street. It was the first licensed hotel in town originally being nothing more than a log cabin. The license dates from 1854  Ph: 8666 2110
  • Pichi Richi Railway – Heritage Steam Train Journeys.   Departing from Quorn or Port Augusta – Ph 1800 440 101 to get prices and bookings.
  • Police Station and Court House Museum  – This attractive complex was built in 1862 and comprises the Police Station, Old Court House, cells and stables. At one time it was one of the largest police stations in Australia looking after all the land to the north which, at that time, meant everywhere to the north coast of the country. It is now a National Trust Museum, open daily from 1.00 p.m. – 4.00 p.m. and contains good exhibitions reflecting the history of the town and the surrounding district. Ph: 8666 2141.

In addition to the world class single track here in melrose,  there are several other options nearby:

  • Orroroo – Bike trails for all abilities!
  • Willowie Forest – Ride along the Rail trail you will find willowie Forest – plenty of options with shelter and walking tracks
  • Bendelby Ranges – The variety of tracks makes mountain biking at Bendleby Ranges a unique experience. A new cycling trail has been created over a distance of 10 km, with gradings of Easy and Intermediate.
