He is one of, if not THE, greatest cyclist of all time. The guy would show up to a race, and everyone else just knew they were racing for second place. He won the Tour de France five times, won all the monuments of cycling at least twice, with 19 monument victories in all,won the Giro d'Italia five times and the Vuelta a España once, won the world championship once as an amateur and three times as a professional, and broke the world hour record.
He was a hard man, hard like woodpecker lips. He inspired so many to push themselves and be greater than they would have been otherwise, he showed us it can be done. The world of cycling owes a lot to this man, and that is why today, we hope you go out and ride your bike. Take your dad out for a spin around town, if you are a dad, take your family out. You don't have to hammer like Eddy did, (you can, but you don't have to) but you should go out and pedal, get out on your bike in honor and celebration of a true legend of cycling.
Whether you are stritcly a mountain biker, or you also have and ride road bikes like we do, you gotta admit…the guy was a pure bad ass mofo.
