Home last night from the Sea Otter Classic in Monterey; where if you read my other post you know that I did a ton of great "networking" with my beloved industry peers – friends – family. I got home last eve and stopped off with the locals for tacos and margs at Nathy’s. By the end of dinner I was feeling a bit like I had conquered the world and now it was time to sleep. Maybe for a whole day to make up for the wacked out social schedule I have been keeping since the Otter… Pub Crawl… Cruise… Vegas.. whatever, I guess I should stop looking for the end, I never seem to find it, heck I never seem to accept it. No wonder people like me die young, its the only rest we get. As I was feeling rather excited and accepting of my long night ahead; my Palm popped up a reminder "11 News LIVE at 5:45 AM" WHAT!?! My long restful night was abolished; replaced with a 4:20 alarm and a "better get ready for on camera BS" gettin’ dressed and driving away in the dark of pre-dawn morning feeling the only difference from this day and the previous 5 was that this time I was starting at 4 AM instead of finishing. But really the rest was the same; I was going to rap about mountain bikes and be all excited and speak to freinds and strangers alike about Fruita Fat Tire… yep, same as Monterey. Away I went; thank goodness Starbucks opens stupid early.

As I rolled along with the moon and a couple cool planets hovering over the grand mesa and an emerging view of Mount Sneffles to the south. I drove along the back roads so I could have a little peace and go a little fast. The baby dragon likes to feel its morning wood when the air is cool and packs really nicely in the turbo. The germans no how to build a car, but thats another BLOG. The sky was chamging the whole drive, the drive was awesome but the part that made me feel lucky was the memories running through my head about my life and my past weeks and the weeks ahead of me. Just back from my annual "see friends and ignore a bike race" trip to CA. I feel so Lucky to be in the community I am in and to know the wonderful people that I know. Thoughts ran through my head about meeting new people; some that I was quite impressed with ("merci" and "Ciao") and managed to violate my rule of – "you dont need to network any more; you already know plenty of people". Some friends I hadn’t seen in years and some that I see semi often and look forward to every time. As I’m waxing all sentimental about my great life and great circle of friends it of course was building in its obvious energy that this is Fat Tire week and I’m not anywhere near the end of the run of wonderful that is only now reaching its crecendo. Soon people from all over the MTB world will be rolling in to Fruita where we will celebrate reunions and share laughs and great stories and venture off to create some new stories we can share later of the wacko stuff we did or the great rides in Fruita 2009.

It’s spring… its time to share some singletrack with some friends old and new and yes… I feel pretty lucky…
