The Avinox-Powered Pivot Shuttle AMP’d E-MTB – A Perfect Trail Bike

Featuring the much-hyped Avinox M2S drive system, the Pivot Shuttle AMP’d is Pivot’s top-of-the-line, full-powered, full-suspension E-MTB. It has 150mm of DW Link suspension, comes standard with MX wheels (27.5 rear/29er front), and the all-mountain geometry falls between “the precision of the AM and the rowdy authority of the LT.”

To sum up the Pivot Shuttle AMP’d, it’s a perfect all-mountain trail bike—with a serious pedal-assist boost. Leaving the Avinox motor out of the equation, Pivot really hit the sweet spot with the Shuttle AMP’d. Although Pivot describes the geometry as “bridging the gap” between the Shuttle AM and Shuttle LT, unless you’re riding the biggest, gnarliest lines, the AMP’d is absolutely dialed. It’s actually slacker with a slightly longer wheelbase than the Shuttle LT, so you know it can handle just about anything. Thanks to the mixed-wheel setup, it’s nimble in the tech and corners really well. It’s about as close as you can get to a transparent trail bike – a bike that’s designed so well you never have to think about it. It’s confident, stable and intuitive in almost every situation.

The Pivot Shuttle AMP’d is powered by the 1,500 W, 150 Nm Avinox M2S pedal-assist motor with an 800 Wh battery. That’s a LOT of power! The standard maximum power output is 1300 W with 130 Nm of torque and four assist levels (Auto, Eco, Trail, Turbo), as well as Walk and Boost modes. The Auto assist mode is interesting and impressive. It’s essentially a pedal-assist automatic transmission that, “adjusts assistance to your power output and speed.” It works surprisingly well, allowing you to focus on the riding rather than what assist mode you should be using. The Eco mode is pretty standard. However, for our technical slickrock riding, we found the stock Trail and Turbo modes to be a bit much. The Boost button, which delivers the full 1,500 watts of power for 30 seconds, like a mountain bike nitrous button, is way too much for trail riding but perfect for getting back to the top for another lap. Luckily, everything can be adjusted and fine-tuned with the Avinox phone app.

There are a lot of other thoughtful details integrated into the Avinox M2S drive system. There’s a color touchscreen display in the top tube, a USB-C charging port and a built-in lighting and accessory mount. You can import GPS routes so they show on the touchscreen display and the controller can be paired with a heart rate monitor and synced with the motor so the assistance level helps you keep your heart rate within a designated range. The Shuttle AMP’d even has traction control, thanks to speed and gyro sensors that detect and correct for wheel slip. Last but not least, the SRAM Transmission wireless drivetrain power is integrated with the Avinox battery so you don’t need to worry about charging the derailleur battery. There’s also a feature called Avinox SmoothShift that communicates between the derailleur and the motor to make smoother shifts under load and allow shifting while coasting.

If you’re looking for a versatile, full-powered all-mountain E-MTB, it’s hard not to get excited about the Pivot Shuttle AMP’d. The geometry and DW-Link suspension give it near-perfect handling on almost any kind of trail; and the Avinox M2S motor has more than enough power for any kind of riding. It requires a bit of tuning for our technical trails but it’s a great platform. If you’d like to compare the Pivot AMP’d to some different e-bikes, we also offer demo rentals of the Pivot Shuttle AM, the Pivot Shuttle SL-AM and the Amflow PL Carbon, which has the previous generation Avinox motor, the M1.
