Ibis Exie Mountain Bike Description
Ibis mountain bikes have been a staple in Over The Edge Hurricane’s fleet for around a decade. Their playful, yet stable ride characteristics, paired with proven DW-Link suspension make Ibis bikes an easy choice for mountain bikers looking for fun, versatile trail bikes. The Ibis Exie is a new category for the company. It’s an ultralight, short-travel cross country race bike. If you want a bike designed for endurance and XC podiums, the Exie was built for you.
The Ibis Exie has 100mm of rear travel moving around the tried-and-true DW-Link suspension design. Up front, the Exie has a 120mm fork, providing enough suspension to charge hard around the race circuit but enough squish to get away with the inevitable bad line choice. Overall, the Exie’s carefully-engineered combination of minimal travel and DW-Link suspension make for a balanced ride with a truly incredible pedaling platform.
There are lots of bikes striving to be “quiver killers” or “Swiss Army bikes.” The Exie doesn’t try to be either of those things. Rather, it excels in the category it’s designed for — cross country racing at the highest level, it knows its place and it does a damn good job of proving that: just ask Jenny Rissveds, who took home gold on her Ibis Exie at the 2024 World Cup XCO season opener.
While mountain bike geometry is generally getting longer and slacker – Ibis kept things tight and snappy with the Exie. They also designed the Exie with size-specific seat angles That allows riders of all sizes to maximize their power and squeeze every little bit of efficiency out of the bike. Riders will feel this in the way the Exie accelerates and carries speed.
So, where does the Exie fit into our chunky, Southern Utah terrain? Right where it needs to—dissecting technical terrain over big miles. The Exie’s pure XC geometry has a high bottom bracket and tight turn radius, making it a great option for riders who love technical climbing. The snappy turn radius allows riders to stay on the gas and carry speed through tight, twisty terrain where a longer, slacker bike would struggle.
Ibis has an Exie offering for every XC rider. Those looking to get on a proper race bike without breaking the bank can check out the Vietnam-manufactured Exie, a.k.a. The Exie For All. It has the same geometry as the World Cup race bike at a much friendlier price point. Hardcore cross country racers looking for a zero-compromise, top-of-the-line race bike will want the Exie USA, a sub-2000-gram frame that’s handmade in Ibis’s stateside factory. The photos on this page are all of shop-owner Quentin’s custom spec’d limited-edition Exie USA.
To sum it all up, the Ibis Exie is a precision-tuned trail scalpel that will give you the confidence to go farther, faster, and more often. Our retail manager Pierce, has been racing and adventuring on the Exie USA throughout the 2024 season and believes he’s on the best tool for the job.
Curious about this race-ready rig? Take one of our Ibis Exie rental bikes out for a day and see if it fits the bill for you. We currently have it available for rent in all sizes from small to extra-large. If the Ibis Exie is too much of a dedicated race bike for you and you’d like something with a little more travel and slacker, more trail-friendly geometry, take a look at the Rocky Mountain Element, the SCOR 2030, the Ibis Ripley and the Pivot Trail 429.
