Ibis Mojo 4 First Ride – Gooseberry Mesa

The Ibis Mojo mountain bike is a classic. It’s arguably the original full-suspension carbon trail bike. The latest version, the Ibis Mojo 4, was launched recently and arrived at the shop a few weeks ago for our mountain bike rental fleet. As soon as we got our hands on the new Mojo we took it out to Gooseberry Mesa for an Ibis Mojo 4 first impressions ride: a classic ride for a classic bike, if you will. The modern trail bike was born in 2005 when the original Ibis Mojo mountain bike was introduced. At the time you pretty much had two choices for full-suspension mountain bikes – XC or downhill/freeride – steep angles with short travel or slack and squishy. The Ibis Mojo changed that with 140mm of travel, a sleek carbon frame and slacker, more aggressive geometry than most early to mid-2000s mountain bikes. Fifteen years later (has […]

New Ibis Ripmo V2 Ride Report – Southern Utah

Ibis recently announced a new Ripmo 29er with updated geometry and a retuned DW Link suspension system. The new Ibis Ripmo V2 takes the original Ripmo platform, stretches it out, improves the suspension and turns it into a legit enduro rig, ready to take on Enduro World Series race courses, bike parks and big mountain terrain. We got the new Ripmo V2 within a few days of the announcement and sent shop wrench Jordan Rarick out to Church Rocks to get a feel for how it compares to the original Ripmo.  Keep reading for our Ibis Ripmo V2 ride report. The original Ibis Ripmo has been one of our most popular mountain bikes. The combination of 29er rollover, new-school geometry and DW Link suspension made it a fantastically versatile and capable bike – especially for mountain bikers who don’t mind pedaling to get to the good stuff. That made the […]

2020 Pivot Switchblade First Ride Report – Southern Utah

2020 Pivot Switchblade First Ride: the new 2020 Pivot Switchblade 29er is here! Looking back over the past five years, it’s hard to think of another mountain bike that stirred things up quite as much as the original Pivot Switchblade. Our first shipment of 2020 Switchblade 29ers arrived about a week ago and we invited Chris Castle, owner of Advenduro Tours , a local mountain bike tour business, to break it in and give us his first impressions. For more information including complete specs, geometry and pricing, visit our 2020 Pivot Switchblade bike page. The first thing you notice about the new Switchblade is the classic design of the carbon frame. Chris said, “Out of the box, the new Switchblade takes me back to a time of clean straight lines. It’s very reminiscent of the bikes I longed for many years ago. But the Pivot Switchblade has incredibly smooth blends […]

2020 Rocky Mountain Slayer In Hurricane, Utah!

We’re really excited to be one of the first shops in Utah (maybe even the US) to get the new 2020 Rocky Mountain Slayer 29er. Photo-John and Sanchez took it out for an early morning Grafton Mesa shakedown photo ride, last week. Grafton is a Hurricane area downhill/freeride classic. It was originally a Mormon pioneer woodcutter’s road. The remnants of that old “road” are now a steep, rocky mess – perfect for a first ride on the new Rocky Mountain Slayer! The Slayer was one of the first dedicated freeride bikes to hit the market. It debuted in 2001 as a smaller, lighter alternative to the straight-up downhill bikes most freeriders (and Froriders) were using. We’ve come a ridiculously long way since then in terms of mountain bike progression and bike technology. With a burly but lightweight carbon frame (with an alloy rear triangle), contemporary geometry, bigger wheels and the […]

Introducing the New Ibis Ripley

We’re excited to welcome the new Ibis Ripley 29er to the Over the Edge family! The Ripley has always been one of our most versatile mountain bikes and the updated 2019 Ripley is even better. Ibis took what they learned with their longer-travel Ripmo and applied that to the 120/130mm-travel Ripley to make what their calling the “Mini’Mo.” We’ve had the bike for a couple of days here in Hurricane and it’s a fantastic ride – just as you’d expect from an Ibis. We have them available now so if you’d like to find out for yourself how good it is, visit our Ibis Ripley V4 bike page, call or use the online rental form to reserve your new Ibis Ripley 29er demo, now. Although the new Ripley might appear similar to the previous version, it’s really a very different bike. Yes, it’s still a 120mm rear-wheel travel 29er trail […]

Riding in Sedona

How could a week of no work and lots of planned pedaling get any better?  Well, start with Sedona's majestic vista's, it's trails that inspire, enlighten, challenge and occasionally terrify.  Add to that a collection of characters from the extended Over the Edge family and warmer than normal January temps and what you get is the perfect mtb road trip.  We arrived Sunday evening late after driving through quicksilver light illuminating the "rez" from the nearly full moon only to find everyone in bed.  A rapid unrolling of bedgear for empty beds or floorspace and we drifted to sleep dreaming of the coming 2 wheeled adventures.  Morning found us scrambling for a frenetic breakfast mixed with hugs from old friends and introductions of new before settling into  the first of the family "meetings" that was the official excuse for this gathering.  We wrapped up the morning discusions and suited […]
