Kokopelli's Trail system - at the start of the 142 mile track from Fruita to Moab there are several singletrack loops that make up the Fruita end of the Kokopelli system. Rustlers Loop, Mary's Loop, Horsethief Bench, Moore Fun, Mack Ridge, Lions Loop, Steves/Handcuffs and Troy Bilt loops all add up to 40 some miles of desert mountainbiking within the Colorado River Canyons known as Ruby Canyon and Horsetheif Canyon. The Trailhead is the easiest to reach and thus the perfect starting point. With the trails lying in the river canyon you will quickly leave civilization and find yourself in a pure sandstone and desert MTB world.

George has been part of the OTE family since the beginning. He worked at OTE in high school and was part of the original crew of "renegades" building trail at 18 Road. George raced as a semi-pro XC racer from 1997 to 2002 and was ranked 5th nationally. After his racing career George completed a degree in business with the hope of melding his love of cycling into a successfull business. Hi 

Yeah it's late; I tend to do that, sometimes it's to play and sometimes to skype Australia and often just cuz it's what I do. As I turned lights off tonight I felt again a strong feeling that inspired me to jot a quick note. I feel that Over the Edge is a wonderful place t be right now and I feel this deep sense of gratiude to all of you who made this story true and continue to define what is "Over the Edge" each and every day. With the Fruita Fat Tire Festival just finished and the best 18 Hour / Festival weather combo ever; what a beautiful thing to see the "cornerstone" of the OTE World still gaining strength and awesome-ness in it's 18th season. Thank You all for that! Meanwhile in Sedona the MTB Trails movement is so powerful as the locals have risen to the occasion and united with the wonderfully progressive Forest Service there and the City of Sedona as momentum to do cutting edge amazing trail development there is setting a national, if not world wide, standard for the future of MTB TRails and public land managment. Thanks to all who are sharing their passion with enough wisdom to listen and learn on both sides. Kudo's to Jason and Mike for being the "new shop" that has jumped in with 100% conviction and earned the trust of the community; both local, govt. and MTB, in such a short time. We all salute the quick strength of OTE Sedona and the contribution they have made to MTB Trails even with the workload of starting a new buisiness; Cheers. Thanks to all who came out and built the "one day piece of awesome" as Jennifer Burns gave the local trail builders the opportunity to build a legal trail in one day last month. Next week I look forward to a swing through Hurricane and a visit to the spiritual mesa's of SW Utah. Quentin and DJ will be glad to point in the right direction if you haven't ridden down there; you should, it's so special that we are all afraid to say too much about it. But since your reading my words and haven't quit yet? It's a place you need to go ride and just "be" for the all around amazing experience of being in magical places on your bike. The HUrricane Festival in October is a great time to plan a trip; I'll be there, come ride with me...

Speaking of that; I'm headed to Melrose South Australia next month for the Melrose Fat Tyre Festival; I cannot stress enough; if you need a crazy trip to change your year? Come down under and ride with me and some of my Roo friends under the towering Gum Trees and singing birds of the Southern Flinders Mountains in SA. Pop into New Zealand on your way back or swing north to some island or just spend a cuple days in Melbourne or Sydney on your way in or out. Let me know if you decide to do something awesome and I will gladly help with some tips and such. Melrose is 3 hours north of Adelaide Australia and is a must do on your MTB vacation / excuses to go down under list. YOu will not be disapointed as you ride your bike from your accomodation to the pub to the trailhead and back on Singletrack a different way stopping at the other pub in this tiny 250 person town with almost that many miles of tracks to ride right outside the town and often overlooking the valley from the towering Mount Remarkable some 3000 feet above the Ocean Gulf just 20 miles away.

Yeah; things are exciting right now in the world of Over the Edge. I sincerely and with the depths of my heart want to thank you all for your support. Bike Elysium! Trails right out of the town in the foothills of Mount Remarkable! There are some trails already famous like Greener Pastures and Hellrose with EDGE LOOP and Throwing Copper new connections for some. Riding mountain bikes on Don and Margaret McCallum's property is a privilege, so please treat the trail, livestock and environment with respect and care. Enjoy with a hint of adrenalin and a tincture of rosemary followed with a deep red Shiraz. Watch out for the kangaroos - they are numerous and have been know to hitch a ride..

Farmers' freewheelin fun track

This trail is your traditional farmers track for 4WD access and provides the main access to the trail network for cyclists and walkers. As the name suggests it is a very enjoyable, fast trail to ride down, but beware the trail surface is highly variable so check your speed.

Textbook 10%

Textbook 10% is the original mountain bike trail in the network and a great example of environmentally friendly trail design. It is an excellent way to warm up and get a feel for the area before hitting the serious black diamond terrain.

Benchin

A lengthy section of full bench trail riding bliss that will take you from one end to the network to the other. Get on board and ride to your heart's content.

A Bit Sheepish

This trail was designed by the local residents, Don McCallums sheep, hence the name. Thus it is a bit steeper than the other blue square trails so it is great on the way down.

Don's Summit

This trail spirals to the top of one of the prominent hills in the network, which provides great views over Melrose . Rocks a plenty to test your riding abilities.

Silo Loop

Get out on the plains and stretch the legs while gaining some lovely views back towards Mt Remarkable. This loop of 32km will give a wholesome taste of Mawson Trail riding without having to leave town.

Hellrose

Fast, furious and truly exhilarating. This trail provides a XC ride that will make you feel like a free rider with big jumps and berns to get the adrenalin flowing. It starts with a very technical climb then you can descend into Hellrose.

Out the Back

Some serious XC trail that brings you back out into Hellrose so you can doit all over again if you want to. Get ready for some tight corners and grunting climbs.

On A Bender

If you like your XC really technical then you are going to love this trail. Switchbacks, rocks and serious obstacles to test your limits to the max. If you get the chance, check out the views and cave on your left as you traverse the trail above Melrose .

Greener Pastures

Hold on for the ride of the day as you drop back towards Melrose in what can only be explained as a blast of downhill riding that only the Southern Flinders Ranges can provide. Gnarly rock chutes, fast jumps, dirty half pipes action with a wall ride exit followed by some old school creek riding over rocks and logs. The final obstacle is a real killer so be confident. It's not as hard as it looks.

Weaving camels

A creekside ramble through the Mount Creek past and under Eucalyptus cameldulensis (red gums - the camels). Take a picnic out to the redgum table at the end just before the Mt Remarkable Copper Mine (the other one).

The Big Rhua

Gives a sneek peak of Hidden Valley past the bones of a big red macropod that didn't make it out alive. A bit of tree-whippin' and stump jumping.

Bear Pit

The pit is real and is similar to that found in the city of Bern in Switzerland. The story is that Bern was originally founded by a German Duke in 1191. When it came to finding a name for it, however, he was at somewhat of a loss. According to the legends of the city, he decided then to leave it to chance. He organized a hunting party and decreed that the first animal they killed would lend its name to this new city he had founded. That animal was a bear (Bern). Since the 16th century, the city has had a bear pit (or Bärengraben). The pits here in Melrose were used for sawing logs and this is where the term 'underdog' comes from - that was the guy at the bottom of the 2-person cross cut saw eating sawdust... Not sure what any of this has to do with bears..

Hidden Valley

Now this place is special. You enter from the Picadilly Circus junction, cross the road and wind your way up over the old burnt log, working pretty hard and then you are on top of the world and heading down the hill past the jack rabbit hole and blasting through the scree, over the big log, over the ball bearings, around the big red gum, down the sketchy face back in the valley and past the big red's bones. The finale is under a massive red camel looking out over the Willochra Plains before it intersects with the big Rhua again. This one is tough, with fine lines but it is very special. Stop for a picnic near the scree with some quondong leather, chocolate and red wine.

EDGE LOOP

The EDGE LOOP is in capital letters because it is EDGY and traverses a few rock garden edges at the native hibiscus outcrop. There are some pointy narguns and a few drops and it gets a wee biit slippy when we see moisture (rare these days). It starts and finishes at Picadilly Circus. Short but sweet and tends to go past bemused wallaroos, or euros to the locals. Can decide to opt out at the bottom and head back via The Big Rhua or Bear Pit to Weaving Camels. Alternatively, head into the Hidden Valley or grunt up Blazing Saddles and down Throwing Copper for a big adrenaline finish catching the cool air at the bottom of FFFT.

Blazing Saddles

Takes in the speccy lookout on bald hill (Maol Ban) with great views of the Willochra Plains, Mt Remarkable, Cathedral Rock and The Creagach. If you don't know what the Creagach is you'll have to head up there for a look - (hint: it is south of Cathedral Rock). Goes over a big dead gum which looks sketchy but it not as bad as it looks. runs past the mines, rock gardens, rabbit warrens and back up the road to Throwing Copper. This one is all natural and full of fibre, solar powered and just good for the soul - hurts a bit though, at times.

Throwing Copper

You can hum Lightning Crashes or even The Dam at Otter Creek if you like but hang on for some rapid fine lines and a lightning weaving finish through the mounded corrie below the copper mine. You will do this one faster and faster over time. Continue on down FFFT jump at the bottom and blast through the creek before coffee or beer or just do it all again or head North to Dodging Bullets.

Dodging Bullets

This baby starts just through the monument gate and turn right and then you are off through the hops and quandongs and christmas bushes, past a neolithic cave with a scary drop (stay on line here or die), out of the brush and over the creek and down a run that has some interesting features. Between trees, down logs and then over the fence and you are into a WWII rifle range with signs of yesteryear around. Enjoy the view from the top at the big sawpit and then thrash down the wooded gully and then down another gully (air to be had). Then it is the finale smashing down and weaving the final gully, up and jumping the dry dam bank and through the ruin, past the dog pound and back to Melrose or down to the Showground loop. It is rough so take it easy the first time or use a Delirium-T.

Kiss The Sky

Jimi Hendrix's favourite ride. Not for those that don't like precipitous drops. Keep the head looking at the trail unless stationary. Takes you from Greener Pastures to the Top of the monument and a perfect link into Dodging Bullets.

Showgrounds Loop

A great family cruise around the periphery of this 100 acre patch of gums and gullies. Follows the old golf course and gives nice views again over to Coomoroo Hill. Great picnic spot. The kids will love spending hours playing in the creek and climbing trees. Lots of laughing kookaburras haunting the dusk air. The ride along the Mount Creek back to Melrose keeps it off the "busy" bitumen road so you can send the kids down there for a ride while you hang out in the coffee shop, pub, bike shop or your accommodation. It just doesn't get much better than this.

Where

Beautiful MELROSE, SOUTH AUSTRALIA – riders are to ride around approximately 9km course continuously for 6 or 18 hours, riders will finish each loop riding up the main street of Melrose whilst the spectators cheer them on outside one of the 2 pubs in town.
What an awesome sight – the rider’s headlights traversing the trails on Mt Remarkable and then festivities to be had throughout the day and night.

The race will commence at 12 midnight and finish at 6pm the next day.

Who

An 6/18 hour enduro requires riders either in teams of 2/4/6 or as a solo rider to enjoy the Melrose trails.

100% Singletrack; all built by mountain bikers and built for the sole interest of a flowing mountain bike experience. The Trails north of Fruita are the heart and soul of what Fruita Mountain biking is all about. Back in 1994-95 the rag tag bunch from Over the Edge drove north and found this rolling terrain with a few 500 year old trees and started creating a trail system that has been proclaimed as a personal favorite of some of the best riders in the world. No real big technical features and certainly not a free-ride area; this is mountain biking in it's pure and perfect feel. The word FLOW cannot be bold enough to describe what awaits in the bookcliffs. The fun here is in the narrow flowing singletrack and the rhthym of the jumps and undulations. Fruita has long been known for the effort to keep singletrack skinny and preserved; join us in ”keeping singletrack single” - avoid making off trail tracks and stop & step aside to yield. Keeping these trails narrow is preserving what we love about riding mountain bikes. Let the ATV's make 4 foot wide trails, not us! Gooseberry Mesa has mountain biking trails for everyone. Whether you like the technical slickrock or you are less aggressive and want to hone your skills, head on up to Gooseberry Mesa. Situated on a mesa 1500 feet above the Hurricane Valley, the temperatures are cooler and the scenery is absolutely amazing. The Gooseberry Mesa singletrack trails were designed and built by mountain bikers and are for non-motorized use only.

Gooseberry Mesa is bisected by a doubletrack called the White Trail that serves as an access trail, a beginners trail, and makes for a quick trip back to your vehicle so you can refuel and head out again.

The South Rim of Gooseberry Mesa is famous for its singletrack slickrock. The South Rim is the more technical area of Gooseberry. The moves come at you fast and furious and are interspersed with amazing views of the Hurricane Valley and Zion national Park. Hidden Canyon is a "Must Ride" singletrack from the South Rim to the White Trail.

The North Rim is less technical, but still has moves to challenge the best. The North Rim is also home to the Practice Loop, for those looking to hone their skills before heading out onto the more challenging sections of trail. The Windmill Trail is a great singletrack along the rim. From the end of the Windmill is a 10.5 mile singletrack that connects to the Grafton Mesa descent into the old ghost town of Grafton.

Actual skills/tricks: I use a lot of "bike separation" and proper body position to corner fast. It works well when I do it right- still working on it though.

A celebration of mountain biking - A variety of rides for all ages - Rides vary from double black diamond epic 5 hr circumnavigation of the hills to an easy tour through the streets of Melrose stopping at a local coffee shop.  Experienced riders can grab a map and head off with their buddies. For those who are looking for more support, a knowledgeable local will guide groups around the trails. The programme has been designed to take in a skills session in the morning then enjoy a ride in the afternoon.
We have the Australian Mountain Bike magazine boys as well as Ian Fehler from Escape Goat coming to pass on their skills and knowledge to all levels – beginners / intermediate and advanced. They will do maintenance and skills courses.
It is not all about the riding though – The clunker crit is on so don’t forget to bring your clunker –as old and ugly or beautiful as you like - whatever you find. Dress to impress. This is followed by the tall bikes parade courtesy - The Rat Patrol from Canberra. Their impressive ‘’freak bikes’’ are made from hard rubbish.  Escape goat will be running the ever popular Cycle Olympiad with some great prizes. Sunday Figure of 8 finals from the Rat Patrol on the tall bikes out at the Show-grounds the next day so come along and watch some local music, try your luck at Karaoke at the Mt Remarkable Pub and bring your sombrero and guitar for our jam session at North Star’s Mexican fiesta.

Grand Junction is the bigger town just a few minutes from Fruita. It's local trail system just minutes from downtown is a the treasure trove of local riding and a must see for the Fruita visitor. World class rocky technical riding makes this the contrast and compliment to the flow of the Bookcliffs. Here you'll find flow among a multiplex of sandstone boulders. Some of the biggest free-ride moves and miles of sweet slickrock and soil stunning rides. Rides in the ”Lunch Loops” (a local term for the first jeep road loop here) have become trails of legend; The Ribbon, Holy Cross, FREE Lunch, Pet-e-kes, Eagles Wing and Eagles Tail, Gunny Loop and a whole slew of connectors and such. Not to mention that you can connect this from here to Telluride/Montrose on the 130plus mile Tabeguache Trail system. Take a day to explore this area for sure; unless the Kokopelli's was technically ”hard” and then you might not like this area too much, think rocks... plenty of rocks!

Bartagunyah is a top spot for a lot of different activities. There are yabbies to catch and hills to climb and little waterfalls in hidden corries. Views across to Spencer Gulf and the back of the Mount. Call in to the cellar door or OTE to get a map for riding. Don't forget to try some wine - it is becoming well known in lots of little crannies and nooks of the world, and the Port (Vintage Shiraz) is par excellence. The trails are on 2400 acres of private property so please respect and it is all free so buy a bottle of wine or 2 (you won't be disappointed) to help cover maintenance and insurance costs. This is mountainbike specific wine too!

The Adelaide Mountain Bike Club run a Cross Country Race at Bartagunyah and Melrose on the Sunday of the October Weekend each year with lots of categories for advanced and casual riders, so come along for a ride and meet some great people! Don't forget that Saturday is the Melrose Show and it is absolutely fantastic - makes it a great family long weekend, yes, it is tiring but carpe diem is what it is all about !

Winery loop

This trail is deigned and built for those mountain bikers looking for a leisurely ride on some easy terrain. The trail itself links the accommodation facilities and cellar door to the Mawson trail and provides a loop experience if desired. There is a little uphill to ride going up to the wool shed or accommodation, and the ride back down to the Mawson is a lot of fun without any major obstacles. Silky smooth trail, which is suitable for the whole family.

Blue Heelin

Relatively challenging access track to get you out into the property and make sure those muscles are warm. Once you are out a little further, the trail changes into a purpose built mountain bike trail that is fun and relatively easy to ride. Rocks and ruts a plenty so keep your wits about you!

Jackanna

A reasonably challenging loop with plenty of singletrack and minor obstacles that provide enormous views of the rolling hills and Mt Remarkable itself.

The trail has a different flavour as it follows the sheep trails and is still in a pretty unaltered state. There are numerous trail markers however, and there is plenty of opportunity for developing creative lines. Take your time, have some lunch and make sure to stop for a look at the Scared Rabbit Panoramic View. If you ar feeling adventurous pop over a little further west to the highest point and down to Elliot's lookout. Lookout for morels.

Mia

This trail uses a mixture of access track and single track to get you from one end of the network to another. If you are riding down the trail from the panoramic view prepare for a descent of epic proportions down the access track and then see if you can carry your momentum into the single track for some tricky obstacles. If heading from east to west up to the Rabbit, then the climb is slow and steady but rewarding nonetheless.

Fox Run

Follow the access track and enjoy the views. This is where the pastoralists used to round up the foxes.

Stegosaurus Ridge

This rocky trail is designed to test the skills and balance of all riders and truly embrace the natural features of Bartagunyah. If you need to look at the views then STOP. You cannot ride this trail whilst appreciating the vistas. The ability to ride up steps and hop over rocks will be required for this trail.

Landslide

Often the final descent, this trail has a few surprises including rock gardens and banked corners for your riding pleasure. A wild finish at the woolshed.

The Path of the Bleating Goat

Starts from the Winery Loop near the Homestead and climbs up past a great dam for launching into. Continues down Horsegully on the left of the road and crosses the creek near the National Park gate. Follows the creek past Rankine's Hut and GlenMorangie Corner and heads out past the Scared Rabbit Panoramic Lookout. From here you go through the race and up onto the Lookout to the Sea and Baroota Knob and onto Separation Creek Saddle. Through the gate then and to Gibraltar Rock and you are back at Horse Gully. A short climb and the pain is over and a cleansing wine or two at the cellar door is just reward.

While not as famous as Gooseberry Mesa, Little Creek offer some of the best mountain biking ever. Little Creek is a mixture of slickrock and singletrack through some of the most amazing terrain you have ever seen. There is wide open, flowy singletrack and technical moves to blow the mind.

The Little Creek Trail system is in the process of being dedicated and developed, so as yet there are few trail markers and fewer maps (none accurate). Little Creek is a delicate area with a huge number of archeoligical sites so is extremely important to respect the singletrack and stay on the trail. It is highly reccomended that you ride with somebody who has been there before. If you want to go out and explore on your own, stop by Over the Edge Sports on your way out and we can draw in some trails on your map and give you some landmarks to help you navigate.

Landon is a twelve-year bike industry vet who's crossed the country riding and wrenching. When he's not in the shop he can be found exploring new and uncharted trails all over Western Colorado and Utah. In 2009 he completed the grueling Moab route known as "The Centurion"- 104 miles of Moab's toughest terrain in one day. This is quite an accomplishment, considering he had a severe back injury just a few years ago. Landon also has lately been freelance writing for Dirt Rag and Mountain Flyer magazine. Hailing from Pittsburgh PA, growing up right down the street from Dirt Rag Magazine, Raney is a classic example of The Steel City bike culture - down to earth, gritty, deceivingly strong, and a jack of all trades on and off the bike. West of Fruita and even into eastern Utah; Rabbit Valley is a paradise of long desert rides with plenty of variety and scenery to wow even the regular local. Rides that can loop you in a 50 mile singletrack epic or the 20 mile ride that will have you posting your own pictures on the web. Must try the Western Rim and Zions Curtain as well as the Westwater Mesa and the connection of them all in some huge variation off the Kokopelli's Trail. BLM info here is Motorcycle focused but you'll find plenty of local knowledge at Over the Edge or in the Fruita Fat Tire Guide. We love it here; I rode here yesterday...

This amazing group of trails can be ridden individually or you can put together a 21 mile loop of singletrack the Bike Magazine calls some of the best in the U.S.in 2009.

The J.E.M. Trail is properly named - what a jem it is! It can be fast and furious, weaving thru the desert, jumping like a rabbit for the advanced rider. It is also great for the Novice who can take their time on a flowy, smooth, mellow trail tread.

The Hurricane Rim is just that - high above the Virgin River along the rim, without going over the edge. Great views, rocky enough in places to challange your skills. This trail weaves in and out, up and down along the edge with a good climb out and a fast descent down to the trail head on Highway 59.

Goulds Rim has some rim riding on the edge, a little bit of rock. This trail also weaves in and out, up and down, but no steep climbs.

You can link these trails together in many different ways. Come in and see us and we will put together the one that fits your group best.

We took over ownership of OTE in the fall of 2010.  We were short staffed, and unsure of how to get someone to work for us for two months, and then lay them off for the winter.  Things like getting a place to live and moving to a new town are tricky when all you can offer an employee is two months of work.  J-Rad was like a dream come true.  He was between jobs, had loads of experience and was willing to live in his camper between two dumpsters behind the shop!  PERFECT!  J-Rad went on to a really great job in Bend Oregon after the 2010 season and we've been trying to get him back ever since.  For 2012 we finally succeeded.  With a full time, service manager position offered he no longer needs to live between two dumpsters and we now have one of the most knowledgable service technicians in the industry.  J-Rad has 15 years experience and he's only 31.  Thats HALF his life working on bikes!  OTE is stoked to have J-Rad back in Fruita.  Your bike will be glad he's here too!

The “must-do” trail of Sedona for advanced riders, this is still an 'underground' trail but is quickly becoming a legend on the internet. A true thriller featuring jaw dropping views, puckering exposure, steep-technical-get-your-ass-behind-the-saddle drops, scaling steep slickrock climbs, all along massive bands of red rock...... and finishing with a high speed grin inducing singletrack through cottonwood trees and Oak Creek.

Juno is the classic shop dog, always friendly and always excited to meet new people and fellow dogs. Sedona AZ; home to the Over the Edge winter staff retreat for the past decade plus. It is no surprise that as the legends of Sedona; Mountain Bike Heaven and Rama, Nod and the crew mentioned that the iconic shop of Mountain Bike Heaven might be closing? The OTE crew sat around our Sedona shack and said the same words that were said in Fruita, Hurricane and Melrose; "there needs to be a shop here and it would be a shame if it weren't a cool shop so it might as well be an OTE". That was three winters ago; MTB Heaven hung on for a while and we watched patiently, but as the news seemed to be of iminent vacancy in this epic MTB town, we started to get serious... thats when "whats his name" and all of us were riding sick world class trails above the Schnebly Hill Road and he said to me, "if your serious about an OTE ere I might be really interested..." well... I was... we are... and the idea of Sedona OTE was fertilized at that moment. Call it ironic that 9 months later; the emergence of the shop will occur in the heart of the winter mountain bike paradise we have known and loved for 15 years; Sedona AZ. Not in the town down the road, not in the uber touristy mess of uptown but in the heart of Sedona Sedona where people live, grocery stores overshadow trinket shops and pink jeeps are less a fixture than real people riding real bikes to real sick trails never more than a few blocks away.

Sedona; it's Mountain Bike Heaven and as we start kicking in the womb and finalizing the birth place of this spiritula mecca in the OTE family, we will honor and pay respects to the shop and the people who have anchored this community as an MTB icon for the past 20 years. Cheers to the Sedona seven and the amazing trail builders who have carved out some of the coolest lines you would ever dare put a kknobby tire on. Cheers to Sedona and we look forward to sharing it with you...

Mary grew up in Moab, UT and has worked in the bike industry since she was 14 years old. She was a "free rider" before any of us knew what that meant. She's one of the most accomplihsed female bike riders any where and has a habit of singing Disney songs while kicking butt at the front of a group of fast guys. Huckaby is another classic, even being one of Joe Murray's all time favorite trails. Can even by shuttled by going up Schnebly Hill Rd or made into an epic loop from our Shop doors. Intermediate to advanced riding, technical and steep rocky terrain mixed with flowy singletrack along Oak Creek river. Vast views overlooking town. Link to Jim Thompson and Jordan Trails with twisty old wagon roads intertwined with redrock. Be sure to make a stop at the famous Devil's Sinkhole.... and if you look hard enough, you might find the old roller coaster downhill section ;)

The Chilcotin is named after a mountain range in BC Canada known for its rugged endless trails and adventure.  It's a fitting name for a bike we've been waiting a long time to get our hands on.  We saw glimpses of this high end Canadian frame at Interbike 2010, but had to wait a year before it was deemed PERFECT and ready for production.   This little company is serious about making custom dream bikes. Our store owner Ross Schnell won a pretty important race back in 2008.  The Downieville All Mtn World Championships.  It was a surprise to most people, and even more so that he did it on a mostly stock Trek Remedy.  That bike came with a proper 160mm fork on it and had 150mm in the back.  That bike ruled Grand Jct/Fruita trails.  However the world wasn't ready for it yet, and Trek made the Remedy more "sellable" the next year by putting a smaller fork on it and steepening the geometry.  It was a good bike, but not the perfect bike for living here in the land of rocks and drops.  Ross continued to ride his Remedy with big forks, and also started working with Trek on their next bike which would be two years in the making.  This bike would be everything the first Remedy was, but more.  More travel, slacker angles, through axles for stiffness,  and just as light and pedal friendly as the original.  And just like the original Remedy, Ross would take a brand new bike and win a major race on it.  This summer Ross won the 1st annual Trestle All Mountain Enduro Stage Race on his new Trek Slash, in Winter Park Colorado.  A race that puts the focus on everything that is mountain biking.  Technical downhill, loads of climbing, fitness and skill...all on ONE BIKE!   Here at OTE we are proud that we had input into the design of a bike that is perfectly suited for our trails.  Come demo a Trek Slash today!

>Reservations are highly recomended during peak seasons of Spring and Fall.  When reserving a demo/rental please note that the first two days are charged at the time of reservation and are NON-REFUNDABLE.  Store credit or a raincheck is offered if something beyond your control comes up.  (Refunds are NOT given in the rare event that it actually rains- we can't control the weather!)

>Our rental day is from 9-5.  We use the last hour of our business day to get the bikes ready for the next day of use.  If you rent a bike for multiple days, it is due back by 5pm on the last day of the rental period.

>Demo--We offer up to $200 of your rental fee's toward purchase of the bike you rented, or a new one.  Often the bike you rode is available for purchase and the price is pro-rated by how many times it has been ridden. Our demo bikes range from $2400 to $6000, a substantial investment if you are looking to buy.  Actually riding the bike you are interested in on REAL bike trails will give you the confidence to make a good buying decision.  

>Helmet and Tube Repair Kits are included in rental price. We only charge you for the spare tube if you use it.

>Pedals--We have Shimano SPD, Flat Pedals, and a limited # of Crank Bros Candy and Time pedals for use at no extra charge.  Consider bringing your own pedals and shoes for maximum comfort and familiarity.

>Brakes--In Europe, Austrailia, and NZ,  the front brake is on the right hand of the bar.  Not all brakes are easily switched from side to side.  If you request a brake switch that requires a brake line swap, there will be a charge to bleed the brake system.  Let us know ahead of time and we can put you on a bike that is easily swapped at no charge.

>Damage--Western Colorado trails are challenging.  We have rocks!  Sometimes people crash into rocks.  Whatever the situation, you are responsible for damage to our bike's.  You will be given a chance to ride and test your bike before your ride.  ALL bikes are washed, tuned and inspected after every rental.  We take good care of our bikes and are proud of how well they look.  We also offer a damage protection policy that can be purchased before you ride so that all or most of the costs of an unfortunate crash are mitigated.  We aren't out to gouge anyone. We just want to keep our fleet looking and riding great so that you have a great time in Fruita.

>Rain!--It doesn't rain here in the desert very often.  But when it does, it is NOT GOOD!  Our soil turns to a mud that has the consistency of peanut butter and weighs about ten times as much.  Wheels won't roll through bike frames, and trails are rutted badly. On the bright side though, our soil dries out very quickly.  Often rain in the morning means sweet tacky dirt in the afternoon.  Please use good judgement and don't ride when our trails are wet.  We update our Facebook page often with trail conditions, or call us for the latest information.

>Shipping Personal Bikes--Should you choose to ship your own bike to us and NOT rent one of our amazing bikes, please call first. We charge $15 to hold a box, and other fee's apply should you want us to build or tune your bike upon arival.  We need to get info from you before you ship.  We'll need your name on the box at a minum so we don't spend an hour trying to find out whose box just arrived with no info on it.  Also, shipping rates have sky-rocketed, for most vacations it can be cheaper to rent and it's fun to try new bikes anyway. 

>Bike parts kits are subject to change as needed.
